VRayLight “size” V.S. “scale”

Hello,
I can see from experimenting that the VRayLight “size parameters” affect its behavior. Also “scaling” the light in Max affects its behavior. Both seem to change the light’s “size”, but each produces dissimilar results. I don’t understand the relationship between the two.

How I’m I affecting the behavior of a VRayLight by scaling it?

For a vray plane light scaling is the same as changing the size in the roll out, for a sphere light scaling has no effect.
